Biden extends the penalties imposed on the children and relatives of Muammar Gaddafi



On February 11, the US President Joe Biden notified Congress of the decision to extend the sanctions for another year against the sons and relatives of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and personalities associated with them as well, according to Russia Today, and the US President indicated in the text of a message published on the White House website, that the situation In Libya it poses an "exceptional and extraordinary threat" to US national security and foreign policy.


The document stressed the need to "take measures to prevent the misuse of funds and other violations by members of the Gaddafi family and persons associated with them, as well as others who constitute obstacles to national reconciliation in Libya," and thus the special regime, which has been in effect since February 25, 2011, was extended for another year. While the sanctions decree was signed for the first time by the forty-fourth US President Barack Obama.


This decree, which requires an extension every year, stipulates the imposition of restrictions on all of Gaddafi's sons, key members of his government, and those involved in any way in human rights violations in Libya.
